Across the Ages

Book Review

Across the Ages by Gabrielle Meyer
Historical Romance | Christian Fiction | Time Travel

Rating: 5 out of 5.

From the creaking timbers and salty sea air aboard an 18th-century pirate ship to the glittering but dangerous speakeasies of the roaring twenties, Gabrielle Meyer’s newest novel takes us on an unforgettable time-traveling adventure!

Across the Ages is the fourth book in Meyer’s Timeless Series, and while book one is hard to beat, this latest novel is vying closely for the spot of my new favorite!

Caroline lives in both 1727 and 1927. Each night she goes to sleep in one life and wakes up in the other. Searching for answers, Caroline stumbles across a letter from her mother, hinting at her own experiences as a time-crosser, sending Caroline on a quest to uncover the truth.

This book was nearly impossible to put down. While this is the fourth book in the series (and I highly recommend reading them all in order) Meyer still manages to bring something fresh and unique. In this book, we have our first time-crosser who has grown up without any guidance or understanding about how time-crossing works — and this adds a new element to the story.

The 1727 and 1927 settings are detail-rich and well researched and Meyers always brings some fun historical nuggets to uncover along the way. Both storylines are equally compelling and full of their own heartfelt drama, making for a quick-paced read that left me needing to finish “just one more chapter!”

I also loved how we got to see some familiar characters from the past. (No spoilers!) Meyers weaves these timelines and books together expertly and always manages to come up with some brilliant new time-traveling twist or detail to surprise me. As the series continues, it’s fun to see all the connections and links line up.

Across the Ages has a strong Christian faith arc woven throughout (perhaps more so than any of the previous novels in the series) and I appreciated the beautiful themes of redemption, forgiveness, and what it means to live life faithfully for the glory of God alone. The love story is clean and sweet, and provides all the feelings of anticipation that one expects in a romance.

With its joy-filled romances and well-plotted storylines, this series has earned an easy spot in my heart and bookshelf. Cozy and bright, this feel-good story was just as bingeable as the previous books in this series. I am very much looking forward to continuing this series for as long as Meyers continues to write them!
