My Very First Cookbook is a fun introduction for the earliest of cooks. The recipes are simple to make and have easy steps for beginner readers to follow. (They do require adult assistance as most recipes require use of the stovetop or oven.)
With 48 different recipes ranging from Toads in the Hole Toast to Key Lime Pie Milkshakes, this book covers breakfast to dessert and everything in between. Each page also contains useful substitution tips for swapping out ingredients or flavours. At the back of the book, you’ll also find a page full of funny, food jokes (I wish these were on each page!) and a few fill-in-the-blank pages for your kids to create their own recipes.
Unlike other cookbooks, this one doesn’t have any actual photos of the recipes. Instead, there are cute cartoon drawings of baby animals and their parents cooking together. While photos of the food may have been nice, I thought this was a fun way to mix things up and appeal to younger chefs-to-be.
My kids and I just finished making a batch of the Best Ever Buttermilk Blueberry Muffins and while they may be the only buttermilk blueberry muffins I’ve ever had, I can attest to the fact that they are delicious. I’m looking forward to working our way through the rest of these simply but yummy-looking recipes!
